So if you like gothic attire/clothes and Gothic architecture/art/litterature/movies etc, but are not into the Goth music (death rock, post punk, goth rock etc), then I would say you should call yourself Gothic. I would say that Edgar Allan Poe was Gothic (for example). The gothic subculture and the gothic style has been present in art, architecture, clothing, litterature and etc, for many many centuries. The way I see it there is a difference between being Gothic and being Goth. So you could end up finding something you really enjoyed if you were interested in the subculture as a whole. There's post-punk, goth rock, darkwave, deathrock, coldwave, ethereal wave, grey rock, and afterpunk. That being said, goth isn't just one style of music. Alternative could mean Lolita fashion or it could mean Steampunk. You might just be a rock fan and that's okay, 'darkly inclined' if you have darker interests or 'alternative' are always good labels since they encompass a range of styles and subcultures anyway. Like punk and metal, there's certain styles within the scene (note: these are styles which came from goth itself, not styles which use the name and have originated elsewhere), notably trad goth and deathrock. Alternative and dark fashion isn't limited to the goth subculture, and I'll be honest again, most of the time "goth fashion" isn't what people think it is. But you've never claimed to be one, so no. I'll be brutally honest if you identified as goth yet knew it was a music subculture but didn't listen to any of the music then I would. I don't even really identify as a goth, and I never claim to be one If you want to answer "no, you're not a poser" than write it in the comments instead of dragging my karma down. I'm curious: Would you personally see me as a poser/intruder? I don't even really identify as a goth, and I never claim to be one, it's just that I really like the clothing style and it suits me and my tastes so well (I've always prefered to dress in dark colors, for example, and they look better on me, anyway).Įdit: Don't know why I'm getting downvoted, I was just asking a question.

When I look up all the bands I love to listen to, almost all of them fall into the "alternative rock/alternative metal and emo genres. The thing is, despite dressing goth, I don't really listen to any goth music, it's not really my taste. However, now that I've developed my self-esteem quite a bit, I've got right back into it and I love it. The first time I discovered my love for goth styles was back in 7th grade, and I dressed in it as much as a 12 year old could (I mostly just wore black with dark makeup, nothing too extravagant), though I was bullied because of it all the time to the point I just called it quits and started to dress more "average" again. I've always loved the gothic look, I always thought of it as really beautiful, unlike the beauty standard often imposed on us by mainstream media. I want to keep this as short as possible, so here we go:
